Thomas Jefferson as a Young Child
Thomas Jefferson was born on April 13th ,1743. He was Scottish, English, and Welsh. He was the third child and had 5 sisters and 4 brothers. When he was 9 years old he had learned 3 different languages including French, Latin, and Greek. His first teacher was a Scottish teacher. Then after his father died he attended James Maury tutoring School.
When Jefferson turned 16 he entered into the William and Mary College. The town this college was located in was Williamsburg. The town was very small and the total population was 1,000 people. Here is where he would meet many people who would later influence his life.
Here he met William Small who who exposed enlightenment thinkers to Jefferson. John Locke, Algernon Sidney, Francis Hutcherson, and Henry Holmes all influenced Thomas Jefferson's philosophies. Visvount Boilingbroke influenced Jefferson's religious beliefs.
